Some people shop to live...well we live
to shop and lest that sound too materialistic,
remember that when you shop, others beside
yourself benefit.
First we begin with our motto: Resale
not Retail. Whenever possible, shop
at thrift shops and consignment stores.
Buying secondhand is a badge of honor, not
a sign of desperation. First of all, waking
at the crack of dawn to be the first to
rummage through boxes at flea markets and
estate sales takes great discipline and
persistence. Only the weak wait for the
malls to open at 10am and only the lazy
flip through a few orderly racks of clothing
and call it a day.
Secondly, secondhand shoppers are a special
breed. People who will brake for ANY roadside
sale, big or small know that the thrill
of the hunt is a good reason for living.
You know that feeling you get when you find
that sweater that you have been eyeing on
sale? Well then, imagine how you would feel
if you found a $150 designer jacket for
$4, or that whole box of Blue Willow China
for $5?
Recycling:
Not Just for Paper & Plastic
As a Discount Diva, you will
glow with the knowledge that you are helping
the environment and battling our throwaway
society. When you buy secondhand, you are
recycling. And as an added bonus, when you
shop at a Goodwill or Habitat for Humanity,
not only are you getting a great bargain,
but you're helping the less fortunate as well…it's
a win-win situation!
We realize that there are just some things
you can't or don't want to buy secondhand.
Shopping new is not outside the realm of
the Discount Diva. But even on these items,
we believe in taking the time to get more
value for less. $400 designer shoes is not
the sign of a true Diva...$400 designer
shoes that you scored for $50...now that's
impressive.
A
Final Thought...
Our husbands are always worried
that we're out spending money. And that's
because we are. But, because we buy according
to our Discount Diva Philosophy, we can tell
our husbands how much we SAVED by buying secondhand.
For example: we each bought 2 outfits and
a pair of designer shoes for under $30. If
bought new, it would have cost over $200…therefore,
as we Divas see it, our husbands actually
owe us $170.00 each!!
