Have
you ever found yourself in need of frames
for your treasured artwork and priceless
pictures, yet didn't want to pay the
high cost of custom framing? Your Discount
Divas found themselves in this unenviable
position but fortunately found an affordable
solution.
We searched local antique stores, flea
markets, garage sales and other resale
venues for picture framessome
had pictures which we discarded. We
purchased 5 frames: 4 beautifully carved
wooden frames complete with glass for
$10 or less and one beautiful wood frame
without glass for 5 cents. A trip to
the local hardware store and a few bucks
later, our empty frame was fitted with
a piece of glass, and it was ready to
take its place on the wall.
If the frames are traditional sizes,
we buy ready made mats from discount
chains. For odd sized frames, we take
our pictures and frames to a framing
store just for the matting. (This is
still a lot cheaper than having them
do the whole framing process.)
The best part of this strategy, not
only do you save money, but you will
end up with more interesting frames
to display on your wall
