Diva Pam here...As
I was driving through my town
on Saturday, I came across
an unadvertised yard sale.
Little did I know that I was
about to find the deal of
the year.
An older gentleman was sitting
on the porch of a house that
was for sale and every room
had piles of things for sale,
mostly clothes and accessories
(bags, belts etc.)
After striking up a conversation
with the man, I learned he
was having the garage sale
for his ex-wife who was at
that very moment in the process
of a move to a town about
an hour away.
While I kind of wondered if
she even knew her stuff was
being sold, this was no time
to take the highroad.
The other alternative was
that he was a heck of a
nice guy just trying to
help her out but that was
genetically unlikely and
if he was that darn helpful
why would she be divorcing
him?
Anyway he appeared lonely
and wanting to talk, so
we chatted as he walked
me through the various rooms
of the house. While there
was a bit of household stuff
that I did not need and
tons of nice clothes several
sizes too big, I did spot
some pretty handbags and
belts. I was not especially
in need of any but I felt
like I had to buy something,
you know, in order to be
polite.
I picked up a dusty handbag
that appeared to be leather
but I did not inspect it
closely. I asked him how
much it was and he said
he had no idea and asked
me what I would pay. I said
typically the handbags I
get at yard sales are $2-$3
but that the price was up
to him. He said $2 was fine
and off I went with the
bag.
When I went to clean it
up I found part of a registration
card that said it was a
Brighton handbag. I had
never heard of this brand
so out of curiosity I looked
it up on the Internet and
almost fell out of my chair.
I learned that it is a very
well made handbag from a
company that registers each
one and was valued at $250.00
or more! The other bonus
is that once I cleaned it
up, it became quite clear
it had never been used.
This purchase qualifies
as one of my brightest purchases
yet!
